Dance and Song
“Movies and Icons: A Dance and Song Extravaganza” celebrates the music of cinema and beloved cultural icons while showcasing the art of dance in various genres at the Centro de la Cultura y las Artes (CCAR) in Ajijic.
Three performances are scheduled for Friday, March 14; Saturday, March 15; and Sunday, March 16. Doors to the auditorium in La Floresta will open at 3:30 p.m., with the show starting at 4 p.m.
This two-act program features 28 dancers performing 22 numbers, choreographed by local professionals Tanya Beede, Judi Edelen, Maritza Freyslinger, Guillermo Hernández, Alexis Hoff, Heather Hunter, Cortlandt Jones, Val Jones, Mary Neill, and creative coordinator Roy Haynes. Haynes will be assisted by Robert Fineman, Debbie Lichtenberg, Iveagh Munro, and Jennifer Piehl.
The audience will also enjoy special performances by the renowned Hernández Corps de Ballet, live vocals from Brian Mathers and Laura Medina, and seamless transitions by Master of Ceremonies John Ward.
Local dance groups at Lakeside are committed to giving back to the community. Proceeds from adult dance classes benefit the Turning Point Project, which provides dance lessons, shoes, and attire to children who otherwise wouldn’t have the chance to learn.
The proceeds from the show will support the Festival del Lago study program, which helps university-level musicians pursue professional careers by offering world-class classical music training. The festival sponsors all Mexican students, ensuring talented young musicians from across the country can access this transformative program.
