Lakeside Presbyterian

Pastor Wayne’s topic for this week will be “God Keeps His Promises.”

The next book in our series is Joshua. The Hebrew people had escaped from slavery in Egypt, wandered for 40 years in the desert, and were now ready to receive the land that God had promised. Standing on the western bank of the Jordan River, God instructed them to possess the land. All they had to do was cross a river at flood stage, defeat all the inhabitants of the land, and then walk in obedience to the Lord. No problem, right?

Bible study is Wednesday, 10 a.m., in the church sanctuary. The book of Matthew is the current focus of this initial, interactive, study.

In-church services are at 9:30 a.m. (English) and 11 a.m. (Spanish). The live English service streams each Sunday on Facebook at Lakeside Presbyterian Church-Chapala. All masking and social distancing protocols are in place.

Lake Chapala Baptist

Last Sunday, Pastor John Linton began an in-depth study of Philippians, which he called “Paul’s letter of Joy.” Judging from the widespread smiles and palpable good will after the service, that was an apt description.

In Philippians, the apostle turned a laser-beam focus on the believer’s exaltation through joy. “Joy is the Christian’s evidence that their faith in Christ is alive and functional,” the pastor said. “Making Christ our center increases our involvement in sound spiritual relationships, without which joy cannot exist. A Christian’s conquering joy creates a stable heart and is a powerful witness to non-believers; they will sit up and take notice of anyone who abides in true joy.

“Let your joy be overflowing!” Pastor John exhorted his congregation. “If God’s spirit has enabled you to trust Him, rejoice! Let us, like Paul, present our bodies as living sacrifices and joyfully give ourselves to our Lord as willing bondservants. Don’t be afraid, be joyful! Don’t straddle the world and the spirit; run to Christ! Pray about how God wants you to live and serve, and discover your own personal evidence of His calling, His power, and His love!”

Share thoughtful weekly sermons, uplifting music, and an ongoing thirst for true wisdom at Lake Chapala Baptist Church every Sunday at 10:45 a.m. Adult Sunday school is at 9:45 a.m. Bible study groups are Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m. Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar. Covid protocols are observed.

Abundant Life Church

Which is easier: To not get angry or to not open your mouth when you are? The Bible has wonderful council for either case. If you find controlling your temper difficult, you will want all the help you can get, and God is ready with the help. Whether you yell and scream or simply complain a lot, controlling our mouth is important. Come Sunday, March 20, to hear how God can help, but also to understand our responsibility in the process.

You will also enjoy our services both on our Facebook page as well as our YouTube channel.

English Sunday service is at 10 a.m., also at abundantlifechapala.com. Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone. Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of each month. Bible studies are in person Wednesdays, 11 a.m., Carretera 140 in San Antonio Tlayacapan, just a block from SuperLake.

Unitarians

March 20, Rev. Matt Alspaugh will speak on “Sisyphus Was On a Roll.”

In Greek mythology, Sisyphus was punished for cheating death by being compelled to roll a heavy boulder uphill, only to see it roll back down just as he reached the top. We consider meaningless and difficult tasks to be Sisyphean in nature, and we worry that such tasks in life can lead to depression. How do we deal with the Sisyphean tasks in our lives? How do we reflect on aspects of our life history that were pointless and arduous? We’ll explore the stones we, too, roll. Annie Morris is the service leader.

March 27, Lew Crippen will speak on “Free Will—Is It All an Illusion?” with DeeDee Camhi as service leader.

Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship services are Sundays, 10:30 a.m. The Unitarian building is again open to fully vaccinated participants. To reduce breakthrough infections, we ask that you wear a mask. To reduce crowding, we ask that you preregister by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..">This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Your reservation will be acknowledged.

The location of services is on the Carretera at Hidalgo 261, Riberas del Pilar.
