Expats asked to mind their manners

Prompted by mounting complaints from Mexican citizens registered in his office, Ricardo Razo Navarro, the Chapala government’s liaison with the expatriate community, has issued a formal communiqué reminding local foreigners to refrain from conduct that is offensive to others.

pg3aThe letter titled “Let’s Be Good Neighbors!”  began circulating on social media networks last Monday. The statement opened with the following introductory remarks:

“As we all know, the foreign community that lives in our municipality is one of the largest in the country, attracted by a privileged climate, a relatively low cost of living compared to your countries of origin, a hospitable local population, proximity to an international airport and the city of Guadalajara, all this in addition to having the decisive support of the municipal government. Your contributions to the local economy, as well as social and cultural influence, are very important.

“However, during the last few months, the office under my charge has received different reports in the sense that some members of the foreign community have engaged in improper behaviors that affect the rest of the inhabitants of the municipality, mainly in localities such as Ajijic, Chapala, and San Antonio.”
