Sunrise Rotary welcomes partner clubs

Chapala Sunrise Rotary Club is a leader among lakeside area social service organizations, adhering to an agenda of diverse activities and humanitarian projects. Its programs have achieved a high success rate thanks to collaborative funding with partner Rotary clubs in Mexico, Canada and the United States.

pg12aTo acknowledge and celebrate accomplishments through cooperative work, Sunrise hosted a Friendship Conference over a full week from February 11 through 17. Participants in the program included representatives from Rotary Clubs in Richmond, British Columbia, Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Lincoln, California, as well as Guadalajara, Zapopan and Chapala.

The itinerary opened with a welcome cocktail party hosted by Sunrise President Nicci Benninger and her husband, Michael. Conference activities kicked off on Thursday, February 12, with breakfast and a group meeting at Chapala’s Palapa de Don Juan. A spokesperson for each club gave a brief presentation on their respective memberships and local projects. Afterwards, guests and hosts boarded two rented vans and an SUV to tour Sunrise project sites in the rural north shore villages San Pedro Itizicán and Ojo de Agua.

In San Pedro, the group toured the Poco a Poco Centro Comunitario complex, where Sunrise is providing management and accounting services for infrastructure improvements.
