After seven months of weekly stories of Jesus’ ministry, and before preparing again to celebrate His birth, the annual church calendar comes to an end on the day of “Christ the King” on Sunday, November 22. In a democratic, non-royal culture is “kingship” really a suitable metaphor for Jesus? At the 10 a.m. worship service at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Fr. Winston Welty’s sermon, “Power vs. Authority,” contrasts the Kingship of Jesus with that of every other king.


90-something Lakeside couple ties the knot

Newlyweds Cleola Mary Hengstebeck, 94, and John Wester, 92, are all smiles at the end of their Saturday, November 7 New Braunfels, Texas, wedding ceremony.

The bride and groom are long-time lakeside residents.

The wedding date was carefully set around schedules of family members and, according to Wester, a Naval Academy graduate and World War II Navy pilot, so it wouldn’t coincide with the annual Army-Navy game.

Lake Chapala Society celebrates big 6-0

The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) celebrated its 60th anniversary Saturday, November 7 with a full-day celebration, opening its doors to hundreds of foreign and native residents and dozens of local charity organizations, non-profit groups, business enterprises and entertainers. Representatives of municipal, state and federal government entities were also on hand for the festive occasion. 

Expats pay tribute to Canada’s fallen heroes

Canadian Consul Francis Uy (far left) and Ambassador to Mexico Pierre Alarie (second from right) visited  lakeside Wednesday, November 11 to accompany members of the Royal Canadian Legion and 904 Wing of the Royal Canadian Air Force Association for the annual Remembrance Day Service. Later in the day they  appeared for a meet-and-greet at the monthly meeting of the Canadian Club of Lake Chapala and squeezed in a private meeting with Chapala Mayor Javier Degollado.
