Interest in the U.S. election among Mexicans has been soaring, if a sampling of recent comments, some unsolicited, from mostly well educated Tapatios in a range of professions is any indication.
“What’s happening in the election is tremendo!” volunteered office worker Claudia Ubaldo Wednesday, November 4, partly referring to the teetering uncertainty that was at that moment starting to tilt against incumbent Trump.
High voter turnout also impressed her deeply because “We have the image that the electoral theme is key in a democracy.
“Trump tried to destabilize the election through engaños (trickery),” Ubaldo added, noting she was particularly disturbed when he took potshots at poll workers, not recognizing the civic work they do, as well as the U.S. Post Office – “It’s a noble, longtime institution that is still performing well.”
“At first I was surprised and upset when it looked like Trump was winning,” said Dr. Jose Luis Montañez. “He did damage to America so I always thought Biden would win. Everyone I knew thought that.”
“It was all so uncertain,” said engineer and acupuncturist Francisco Guzman. “The first day they said Trump was winning; the next day Biden. The next day they didn’t know; the next day Biden.”
