Enforcement of Jalisco’s new emissions testing program (Verification Responsable) is in full swing, as traffic police look to identify and sanction non-compliers at checkpoints installed on Guadalajara streets.
All owners of Jalisco-plated vehicles in the Guadalajara metropolitan area are obliged to take their rigs in for an annual test, as are those in several other urban zones of the state (see chart). As yet, there is no obligation for car owners in the rest of the state’s municipalities, including Chapala and Jocotepec, to have a yearly check. However, they are recommended to get one if they visit metro Guadalajara or the other urban locations on a regular basis.
The testing schedule is bimonthly and based the last digit of a vehicle’s license plate. At this moment in the testing calendar, vehicles with license plates ending in 2 should be taken for a check in either February or March, 3 in March or April, 4 in April or May, and so on.
Appointments for checks must be made online at verificacionresponsable.jalisco.gob.mx. It’s important to have one’s tarjeta de circulación (vehicle ID) number on hand, as well as bank card details to pay the 500 pesos for the test (550 pesos if you are making an appointment outside of your car’s scheduled bimonthly testing period).
