Last weekend’s Mr and Miss Ribera body-builders contest drew a huge crowd of spectators for what could easily qualify as the hottest event ever held on the stage of the Auditorio de La Ribera.
Organized by Chapala’s Zona Fitness Gym, the event ran seamlessly for a full four straight hours, with athletic demonstrations in disciplines such as zumba, gymnastics, weight lifting and cross-training scheduled to fill in the breaks between competition segments. A Norteño trio hit the boards with a lively musical set during the mid-time intermission.
Hunky male contestants flexed their muscles in competitions divided into the categories of Regional Beginners, Open Beginners, Novices, Men’s Physique, Classified, Veterans age 45-55, and Veteran’s age 55-plus.
Shapely ladies strutted their stuff in the Regional Bikini and Open Bikini categories.
Competitors representing gyms from communities spanning the entire lakeshore region scooped up 24 of the 36 awards up for grabs. The rest went to contestants from the Guadalajara metro area.
