The Jalisco government is giving financial incentives to its top sportsmen and women to make sure this state maintains its supremacy over its 31 rivals Mexico.
Each of the 75 athletes from Jalisco who have qualified for the July 10-26 Pan American Games in Toronto will receive 24,000 pesos from state funds, Governor Aristoteles Sandoval announced this week.
In addition, each of the 612 gold medallists in the recent National Olympics and Paralympics will get 3,000 pesos.
Athletes from Jalisco comprise the largest group among the 512 Mexican participants in the Toronto games. This state traditionally heads the medal tables in national sporting competitions.
