Although Canada may not end the 2015 Pan American Games with the most medals (that honor usually goes to the United States), they are making a good go of it.
The hosts led the medal table as the first week of competition drew to a close, and Torontonians were loving it. As in Guadalajara four years ago, the event has attracted large, enthusiastic crowds that are getting behind the home nation’s competitors and driving them on to lifetime best performances.
Mexico’s target of 21 golds seems to be on target, and they have their divers to thank for that. Mexican divers have scooped five golds, including one for Tapatio Ivan Garcia in the 10-meter platform.
This country’s other golds have come in rowing, roller skating, triathlon and shooting.
A successful hosting of the Pan Ams will almost certainly lead to Toronto making a bid for the Olympics.
