Former Major League Baseball outfielder Lastings Milledge has teamed up with the Charros de Jalisco for their pre-season series of games.
The youngest player in the National League during the 2006 season, Milledge has played for the New York Mets, Washington Nationals, Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago White Sox with a batting average of .269, 33 home runs and 167 RBIs.
In 2013, Milledge signed a three-year, US$4.4 million contract with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, playing in 255 games, batting .272 with 39 home runs and 129 RBIs.
The Charros are currently playing a dozen pre-season games outside Guadalajara in preparation for their Mexican Pacific League (LMP) 2016-17 opener on Wednesday, October 12 against Culiacan at their Zapopan stadium.
Two home series follow in quick succession: midweek (October 18, 19 and 20) against Los Mochis, and a weekend match up (Friday, October 21; Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23) against Culiacan.
All weekday games start at 7:15 p.m., while the opening pitches on Saturdays are at 5 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m.
The Los Mochis games will be known as the “Pink Series” in an effort to support the fight against breast cancer, while all Sunday games will be dedicated to children, with special offers and attractions for kids.
Other weekend home series are scheduled November 11-13 (Obregón), November 25 and 26 (Mazatlán), December 2-4 (Navojoa) and December 16-18 (Hermosillo). Ticket prices run from 100 to 500 pesos.
The eight-team LMP will run through January 2017. The two-month regular season finishes at the end of December and the playoffs start after the holidays.
This is the Charros’ third season in the league after rejoining in 2014. A successful opening season, in which they reached the final, was followed by a disappointing second term, finishing sixth in the regular season table, and squeaking into the playoffs to suffer a 4-0 whitewash against Mexicali in the first round.
