Delirious fans of the Guadalajara Chivas partied wildly at the Minerva Glorieita Wednesday evening
after Mexico’s favorite soccer team defeated the Morelia Mariposas in the final of the Copa Mx, the nation’s second most important professional tournament.
This was Chivas’ fourth Copa Mx title in the team’s history. Currently in first place in the Liga Mx standings and a place in next month’s play-offs guaranteed, could the Chivas be shaping up for a remarkable double? Three games remain in the regular season and fans are expectant that their much loved rojiblancos (red-and-whites) will provide them with a fairytale finale. The Chivas last won the Mexican championship in 1997. “Anything is possible with this team,” says coach Matías Almeyda.
