City’s coat of arms explained

pg2e

The blue background also signifies justice, loyalty and serenity. The pine tree in the center represents noble thoughts, and the lions the spirit of war and sovereignty. The gold border symbolizes kindness, protection and purity of sentiment. The red crosses are in honor of the battle of Baeza, won in 1227 against the Moors. The helmet and flag above the shield show that the city’s founding knights were descended from the Crusaders.
