For the second consecutive year, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has forced the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce into moving its annual International Mariachi and Charreria Festival onto digital formats, although a few live performances are still scheduled.
As with last year, all the traditional large-scale public events have been cancelled during September 10-19 musical shindig. These include the colorful opening parade through the streets of Guadalajara’s historic center, gala concerts at the Teatro Degollado and the free open-air recitals and concerts in the Plaza de la Liberacion.
The single “gala” concert remaining on the program will go ahead at the Conjunto Santander on Saturday, September 18, 8 p.m., when renowned mariachi bands Vargas de Tecalitlán and Los Camperos, together with the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform. Only 750 tickets — about half the venue’s full capacity — will be sold for the concert.
