Guadalajara Customs now in hands of Army

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has transferred total control of all Customs in the country to the Mexican military, relieving the National Customs Agency (ANA) of its responsibilities.

Last December, the president ceded coordination of the 21 border Customs posts and the new Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) to the Ministry of Defense.  He placed the Navy in charge of the 17 maritime Customs offices and the Mexico City International Airport (AICM), with ANA coordinating the remaining nine.

This week’s move meant that as of May 25, the customs offices in Guadalajara, Monterrey, Querétaro, Toluca, Torreón, Chihuahua, Aguascalientes, Puebla and Guanajuato were all under the control of the Mexican Army.
