Holiday magic set to uplift downtown Guadalajara

The third Illusionante Christmas festival begins Thursday, December 7 in downtown Guadalajara and will include concerts, carnival rides, fireworks displays, fake snow shows, video mapping projections on buildings, an ice skating rink, a Christmas market, a Santa’s factory, photos with Santa, a giant tree and a full-size nativity scene.

pg1bNew installations this year include a Ferris wheel in the Plaza Liberación and a bubble machine in the Plaza Guadalajara. A “train” departing from a “polar station” will transport families along the Paseo Alcalde pedestrian precinct, running through December 23.

The traditional switch-on of the Christmas lights and the inauguration of the life-sized nacimiento (nativity scene) in the Plaza Liberación is set for December 7.

Video mapping on the front of the Cathedral will take place each evening at 6, 7 and 8  p.m. as of December 16, and continue through December 23.

A Christmas market with local and themed products will be set up in the Plaza de Armas, where concerts will be held each evening in the bandstand.
