Open Circle

Claudia Miramontes Moranchell will present “Summer Events at the Ajijic Cultural Center” at the next Open Circle meeting on Sunday, June 29, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lake Chapala Society.

pg12cThe Ajijic Cultural Center offers a wide variety of programs throughout the year, many focused on the development of local children and youth. This year marks its 20th anniversary, and there are numerous ways to get involved and celebrate this important milestone. Community artists, including members of the Neill James Legacy Artists, will contribute to the August festivities and exhibitions.

Miramontes, who currently serves as the Cultural Center’s director, is a Guadalajara native with a Bachelor’s degree in pedagogy. Her studies include history, traditional culture, and museum education. She is dedicated to promoting and preserving the artistic, cultural and historical legacy of her father, renowned sculptor Miguel Miramontes Carmona.

In addition to her work at the Cultural Center, Miramontes is the creator of the “A Day in the Museum” initiative, which highlights the role of museums and cultural spaces as valuable resources for low-income children with academic challenges.

Canadians to celebrate

July 4th celebrations

• Lake Chapala Democrats Abroad will hold its annual July 4th Democracy Celebration 2025! from 3:30 to 8 p.m. at the Hotel Montecarlo (back by popular demand!), Hidalgo 296, in Chapala. The organization can only accept donations for event tickets from U.S. citizens. No tickets sold at the door.

• Manix II offers up handmade hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans and chocolate mousse with a 2x1 price of 450 pesos. Reservations: 376-766-0061.

• American Legion Post 7 Chapala is serving fried chicken, baked beans, corn on the cob and apple pie with ice cream for 300 pesos. Enjoy live music by Blackwater Rockin’ Blues Review and a 50/50 draw. Proceeds to benefit the Chapala cemetery fund. Doors open 2 p.m.

Summer Sizzle

Poco A Poco San Pedro will hold a gourmet BBQ Fundraiser Saturday, July 26, 4 to 7 p.m. to support school registration, uniforms and supplies for children. This includes 57 students assisted last year, as well as new enrollments for August of this year. Tickets, 1,000 pesos, are available at Fenix Realty and It’s Kinda Bazaar.
