Massive fire engulfs city factory

Wednesday, April 30, two employees died and another three are unaccounted for after a large-scale fire broke out at an aerosol factory in the Álamo Industrial neighborhood, located on the border between Guadalajara and Tlaquepaque municipalities.

pg1bEighteen people, including eight firefighters, were injured in the blaze, six of them seriously, according to the Jalisco State Civil Protection and Fire Unit (UEPCBJ).

Around 5 p.m., neighbors reported multiple explosions at the factory, several of which were filmed on cellphones and later shared online. A massive plume of dense smoke billowed from the site, with flames reaching heights up to ten meters.

Local police, state authorities and federal National Guard officers quickly set up a three-kilometer security perimeter around the area. Residents living near the fire, along with workers from neighboring businesses and factories, were evacuated to safety.
