For the first time, the Michelin Guide has awarded stars to restaurants in Jalisco, placing the state firmly on the global gastronomic map. The announcement came during a ceremony held in Guadalajara on May 20.
Two Jalisco restaurants received one Michelin star apiece: Alcalde and Xokol, both in Guadalajara. In addition, Xokol was also honored with a Michelin Green Star, which recognizes outstanding commitment to sustainability and local sourcing.
Alcalde (Av. Mexico 2903) is famed for its ten-course tasting menu designed with seasonal Mexican and Jalisco produce. Opened in 2013, it has been a fixture on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants extended list for several years. In the 2025 ranking, it climbed 16 places to 51st, after ranking 67th in 2024.
