Donald Trump is breaking with a long tradition of world leaders not being invited to the presidential inauguration.
However, the only Latin American presidents Trump has invited to the inauguration for his second term on Monday, January 20 are all ultra-conservatives: Javier Milei of Argentina, Nayib Bukele of El Salvador, and Daniel Noboa of Ecuador.
“It doesn’t matter. There’s no problem,” President Claudia Sheinbaum replied with a smile when asked if she had been invited.
Mexico will be represented at the inauguration by Esteban Moctezuma, Mexico’s ambassador to the United States, Sheinbaum added.
Additionally, the controversial former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is on the guest list. Last November, he was accused with plotting a coup attempt to stop rival Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva from taking office after the leftist leader won the 2022 election.
