After its summer recess, the acclaimed Lake Chapala Orchestra celebrates its 5th anniversary with its upcoming concert entitled “Basically British,” scheduled for Friday, October 13 at 7 p.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church (San Jorge 250, Riberas del Pilar).
The orchestra had its first rehearsal with 13 players on Friday, October 13, 2018. Now it exceeds 50 musicians.
Three British composers are featured in the anniversary concert, starting with William Walton’s “Crown Imperial March,” composed for the coronation of King George VI, subsequently played at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and also this year at the coronation of King Charles III.
By contrast, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “The Lark Ascending” has the orchestra’s concertmaster, Diego Miramontes, as the violin soloist in a beautiful musical reflection of a lark in flight over the English countryside.
