Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro delivered a major announcement last week, revealing the Urban Improvement Plan for La Cristianía Park, a project that will transform the sprawling public park and its surrounding area with an investment of more than 500 million pesos (US$24 million).
The January 10 announcement followed a two-day closed-door meeting between the governor and his cabinet in Ajijic. Afterward, plans for the project were presented at the gates of the park, following a tour of the 12-hectare grounds, guided by Chapala Mayor Alejandro Aguirre Curiel.
The goal of the project is to create a continuous circuit of the city’s tourist zone, stretching from the southern end of Avenida Madero along Paseo Ramón Corona to the far end of Avenida González Gallo. The plan includes connecting the eastern section of the waterfront Malecón to the Club de Yates and restaurant area, extending further to the Centro Cultural González Gallo, Chapala’s iconic former railway station.
The project will be implemented over two years, with roughly half of the funding allocated for 2025 and the remainder for 2026.
