Hurricane season looms

Despite some early warnings, Tropical Storm Alvin, the first named storm of the 2025 Eastern Pacific hurricane season, weakened and dissipated last week, having only a minor impact on the Mexican coast. Meanwhile, a tropical depression is likely to form in the Eastern Pacific this weekend. If it continues to strengthen, it will be upgraded to a tropical storm and named Barbara.

The Eastern North Pacific storm names for 2025 are: Alvin, Barbara, Cosme, Dalila, Erick, Flossie, Gil, Henriette, Ivo, Juliette, Kiko, Lorena, Mario, Narda, Octave, Priscilla, Raymond, Sonia, Tico, Velma, Wallis, Xina, York, and Zelda.

The Eastern Pacific hurricane season officially runs from May 15 to November 30, although storms can occasionally form outside this period.
