Joseph Lukasiewich

Joseph Lukasiewich passed away on January 21 at the age of 93.

pg12Born on March 17, 1931, Joseph was raised on a farm in Thorhild, Alberta, Canada. He began working on oil rigs in 1948, starting as a roughneck and progressing through the ranks as a driller, supervisor and ultimately a technician and advisor in oil and gas extraction and production.

In 1999, Joseph retired to the Lake Chapala area, initially settling in the Birds of Paradise complex. In 2004, he moved to Las Fuentes in Jocotepec, where he became affectionately known as “Waterman Joe” by his neighbors and the condominium board. He was responsible for the community’s water wells, drilling operations, billing and reports, continuing his service until April 2024, when he moved into a care facility.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anne Lukasiewich; his brother, William Lukasiewich; his son, Robert Lukasiewich; his beloved wife, Ruby; and two grandchildren, Jamison and Ronica Gartner.

He is survived by his daughters, Agnes Gartner and Connie Millar; his brother, Walter Reducka; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In honor of Waterman Joe, the family invites friends and loved ones to a Celebration of Life at Viva México Restaurant in San Juan Cosalá on Monday, February 10, at noon.
