Zapopan opens animal health, educational center

Zapopan has become one of the first municipalities in Mexico to open an animal health center that will also serve as an important educational facility.

pg11Located in the Jardines del Vergel neighborhood, the Centro Integral de Salud Animal Zapopan (CISAZ) covers almost 4,500 square meters. The center has five operating rooms, a laboratory, an administrative area, a projection room and training areas, a crematorium, waiting areas, a pharmacy and a terrace. The facility includes X-ray service, blood biometry analysis and ultrasonography, and the installation is fully air-conditioned with video surveillance technology.There is also an area dedicated exclusively to the care of cats.

A novel feature is a toy library (ludoteca), aimed at educating children about the world of animals and their care and protection.

The facility will provide low-cost consultations to the public, as well as sterilization services for up to 180 pets per day.

Zapopan Mayor Juan Frangie described the facility as “first world … I don’t think there is anything like this anywhere else in the country.”

The total investment in the center was 59.3 million pesos ($US2.4 million).

The center is located at Jardines de las Palmas 1650, Colonia Jardines del Vergel, Zapopan. Hours are Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
