Culture lovers will be spoiled for choice at 50th Cervantino Festival

Around 160 presentations featuring performers from 34 countries will grace the 50th edition of Guanajuato’s International Cervantino Festival (FIC), scheduled October 12 to 30.

pg6bcEach fall, the theaters, streets and public plazas of this colorful and charming colonial city become venues for a host of live music, dance, theater and fiestas. South Korea and Mexico City (CDMX) are the guests of honor at the half centenary of what has become one of the world’s most important cultural gatherings.

According to Korean Ambassador to Mexico Suh Jeong-in, the Asian nation will showcase the very best of Korean classical music, dance, theater, puppetry and even K-pop.

The array of international talent on view includes the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the a cappella King’s Singers from the United Kingdom, folk singer Joan Manuel Serrat from Spain, U.S. trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, Indian percussionist Vinod Shyam, Nigerian jazz artist Fela Kuti, the Paul Taylor Dance Academy from New York, the Polish Cello Quartet, the Kaliveh Music Band from Iran, the Compagnie Divons (dance company) from France, the Cas Public Dance Company from Quebec, and the Merlin Puppet Theatre from Greece.
