Tlaquepaque expo awaits tequila fans

If relocating to Mexico has made tequila your primary tipple of choice, then a visit to the 12th Expo Tequila Tlaquepaque 2024 might be worth adding to your “things to do” list this weekend.

pg4bRunning from Friday, August 30, through Sunday, September 1 at the historic Centro Cultural El Refugio in downtown Tequila, this event showcases the fiery spirit produced by more than 50 regional distilleries. Tequila, of course, has Denomination of Origin status and can only be called as such if produced in the state of Jalisco and a few other specific regions of Mexico.

The expo also features the 4th International Festival of Chiles en Nogada. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned foodie, this is a great opportunity to experience this iconic dish featuring large green poblano chiles stuffed with a mixture of ground meat, fruits, and spices, covered with a walnut-based cream sauce (nogada), and garnished with pomegranate seeds and parsley.

The event promises a lively atmosphere, with different musicians performing every hour from 3 p.m. each day until closing.

Visitors will also have the chance to see replicas of the world’s biggest and most expensive tequila bottles. Workshops and formal catas (tastings) are also scheduled.

The expo is open from noon to 9 p.m. Entry costs 100 pesos. The Centro Cultural El Refugio is located at Donato Guerra 160, a few blocks from Tlaquepaque Centro. Safe, enclosed parking is available adjacent to the venue, but can fill up quickly from midday on weekends.
