Magic in the skies above Sayula

The Sayula Baloon Festival (Festival del Globo) will take place in this Jalisco “Magic Town” on Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19. Last year’s inaugural edition featured balloon rides, live music, food and drink vendors, and camping areas.

Many attendees of balloon festivals opt to stay overnight, as flights and rides are typically scheduled at dawn to take advantage of optimal flying conditions—calm winds, cooler temperatures, and a stable atmosphere with fewer thermal currents that could make flying unpredictable.

Less than two hours by car from downtown Guadalajara, Sayula offers a blend of history, craftsmanship, and gastronomy. The town is particularly famous for its handcrafted Ojeda knives, its traditional goat’s milk caramel (cajeta), and its connections to Juan Rulfo, one of Mexico’s most celebrated writers.

Although the official festival program had not been released at press time, those interested are encouraged to follow the social media accounts of Sayula’s Presidente Municipal, Jaz Carrión, for updates.
