Lake Chapala Society to reopen Sept. 21 with certain restrictions

The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) board of directors has set Monday, September 21, as the date for initiating the process of reopening the grounds and resuming some on-site activities.

pg9During phase one, the campus will be open under certain restrictions to members and registered class attendees, with access through the main gate at the corner of Calle 16 de Septiembre and Ramón Corona or the lower entrance at the lakefront. Non-members may be admitted with a one-day pass priced at 40 pesos.

According to information provided by President Steve Balfour, the customer service office and library will reopen first. Activities and programs that can be held in outdoor spaces with 15 or fewer persons present will likewise be the first to resume. Watch for future announcements of exact definitions, dates and times.

People will be required to wear face masks and undergo non-contact temperature checks to be admitted by greeters posted at the entrances. Proper hygiene, hand sanitization and physical distancing should be observed while on the grounds.

Over the two weeks prior to opening day, all LCS volunteers will go through an orientation program about routine practices to be followed in line with the organization’s health and safety guidelines.

Since the previous café operators have declined the opportunity to return to LCS, new candidates for the concession are now under consideration, Balfour says.
