Heritage Baptist Church

And they found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, “The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon” they say. Here were the two disciples, they had been travelling some distance nearing the village just as evening was setting in. Tired and hungry, they set about having a meal and settling down for the night. They had extended an invitation to a stranger. Then they receive a revelation that this is the risen Christ and he is indeed alive. I could well understand them sitting up most of the night talking of this great event but no, they return to Jerusalem to tell the others that very same hour. Perhaps not even finishing their meal, even risking travelling at night, they go straight to the eleven disciples and tell them the good news. Like them, you and I, if the Word of God excites our hearts, should be rushing to share and so encourage the brethren.

Lakeside Presbyterian Church

Pastor Wayne will speak this week about “Have you ever felt lost?”

We’ve all been there. In John 14, the disciples are feeling exactly that. Jesus talks about going somewhere, and Thomas, ever the skeptic, blurts out, “Hey, we don’t even know where you’re going! How can we know the way?”

This is where Jesus drops one of the biggest mic-bombs in all of scripture. He doesn’t give directions or a map. He says something far more profound: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

That’s a pretty exclusive statement, isn’t it? Jesus isn’t offering one path among many. He’s saying, “I am the only way to God.” It’s like saying in a marriage, “Sure, you can have friends, but your deepest connection, your truest love, that’s reserved for me.”

The Paloma Café in the nártex of the Church is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We invite you to taste our delicious blends, and cakes. Free internet.

The English-language service is at 9:30 a.m., which also streams live at facebook.com/LPCChapala.
