Eclipse watch brunch a smashing success for Niños Incapacitados

Volunteers did a fantastic job keeping the 130-odd attendees at the Niños Incapacitados Solar Eclipse Bubbly Brunch fed and feted April 8.

pg20aAt the entrance to hosts Lidia and Michael Bustos’ spacious home in Ajijic, a glass of sparkling wine and a pair of  special eclipse safety glasses were handed out. The sunny cloudless sky that day complied with everyone’s hopes for an unobstructed view of the eclipse, which for many ticked off a  bucket list item.

Some 40-plus items were donated for both a live and silent auction. These included jewelry; recent and antique art; pottery; local services; golf green fees; vacation stays at the beach, Guadalajara and San Miguel de Allende; dinners and gift certificates at local restaurants; a goat farm tour; and a “Dinner at the Opera” event with arias from operas of your choosing and appetizers from that opera’s country of origin catered by members of the Culinary Arts Society of Ajijic.

A wine pull was sold out before the brunch finished up.

The brunch selections were excellent, including bagels with cream cheese and salmon, shrimp and cocktail sauce, a bread pudding, fruit and vegetable salads, sweet potato mash and a fritata with Italian sausage among other mouth-watering items.
