A debate among Chapala’s 2024 mayoral candidates has been authorized by the Jalisco Electoral Institute (IEPC) in response to a request registered by Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) contender Issac Trejo Gracián.
“I am very pleased because citizens will be able to see and contrast the ideas and proposals presented by the candidates,” Trejo stated
The debate will take place according to terms agreed upon between the candidates. So far, however, his five opponents have not confirmed their willingness to participate. A follow-up request must be submitted to the IEPC District Council at least 15 days before the encounter takes place.
If the initiative prospers, it will be only the second time in Chapala’s political history that candidates for the office of presidente municipal face off to express their proposals and intentions.
The campaign season in the mayor’s race that began on March 31 officially closes on Friday, May 31, giving voters two days of quiet to reflect on their preferences. The federal and local elections are held on the same day, Sunday, June 2.
