Northern Lights shines bright in 23rd season

Ajijic recently wrapped up its 23rd annual Northern Lights Music Festival, a two-week celebration of world-class music that has firmly established itself as one of the town’s most beloved cultural traditions.

pg21This year’s festival, held from February 9 to 22, brought over 40 musicians to our Pueblo Mágico—more than 30 of whom traveled from across North America to take part in an impressive lineup of 20 concerts over 14 days.

The diversity of the festival’s programming once again wowed audiences. While all the concerts were extremely well-received, some standout performances included the Festival’s Big Band Show featuring the legendary trumpet virtuoso Jens Lindemann, a Valentine’s Day special by multi-Juno award winner Caity Gyorgy, the adventurous and thought-provoking programming of “Amore e Desiderio,” and violinist Kevin Zhu’s spellbinding display of virtuosity. Each event was met with enthusiastic applause and standing ovations.

Beyond the stage, the festival offered two public masterclasses that provided attendees with behind-the-scenes insight into the artistic process. Social gatherings such as the Gala “After-Party” and the elegant “Benefactors Dinner” added a sense of community and connection between artists and patrons. Students also had the unique opportunity to participate in intensive lessons and coaching from the visiting musicians, reinforcing the festival’s educational mission.
