Jocotepec old folks home gets a new lease on life

There’s a flurry of activity at Jocotepec’s recently condemned El Corazan de Ancianos this month as a group of volunteers, a handful of local workers and some of the elderly residents pitch in to repair the cracking and crumbling building while learning a newly revived green building method which uses recycled materials.


Chapala mayor honors seasoned GR reporter

Distinguished Columbian journalist Javier Dario Restrepo (below center) and Chapala Mayor Joaquín Huerta (right) presented a plaque to the Reporter’s veteran news hound Dale Hoyt Palfrey recognizing her 21-year stint covering current events in the lakeshore region.  

Bold drivers strut their stuff on Chapala’s main drag

Only four of the ten driving teams signed up to compete in the first Rally Sierra Chapala made it to the final challenge of the July 11 auto race, demonstrating their maneuvering skills on a short slalom track set up at the south end of Chapala’s main drag. Three unregistered drivers also took part in the slalom to beef up the spectacle. 

‘Rock the Lake’ fundraiser for Red Cross at Hotel Montecarlo

Young at heart lakesiders can relive their teen years while dancing on the beautiful lakeside terraces of the Hotel Montecarlo during Cruz Roja’s “Rock the Lake” on Wednesday, July 29. DJ Howard will spin the jukebox favorites from the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Attendees are encouraged to rock out in tie-dye, fringed vests, poodle skirts, dungarees or disco attire from 6:30 to 10 p.m.
