Dear Sir,
Upon moving to Lakeside over a decade ago, we were pleasantly surprised to find many opportunities to participate in the various activities which existed here. The Lake Chapala Society was a good place to start, and we soon became members. LCS had the mandate of helping both the expat and Mexican communities.

A few weeks ago the Guadalajara Reporter published an article describing a 17-million-peso project that the Jalisco Culture Secretariat has allotted for the conversion of Lakeside’s Auditorio de la Ribera into a mammoth cultural center, which will include, in addition to the auditorium, conference centers, classrooms, dance studios, lecture halls and possibly even a hotel.

I fully agree with Dale Palfrey’s recent column (January 11-17) titled “Flaming Mexico stinks.”

Marci Bowman makes many good points in her letter in last week’s edition, but I have a few caveats. Numerous breeds, such as German Shepherds, Rottweilers, and pit bulls – a group name which Wikipedia notes is “particularly ambiguous” – have in times as recent as World War II been “nannies” to babies left on a blanket in the yard while their mothers went to work.

Please spare the crocodile tears for poor Luna the dead pit bull. While I certainly don’t condone hacking a dog to death with a machete, remember that this was a vicious, aggressive dog who attacked other dogs and who was allowed to run loose in the neighborhood.

I wish to respond to Dale Palfreys’ column supporting the very loud banda concerts at the Lienzo Charro in Ajijic.
Dear Sir,
I am a musician and when I was a young man of 15, I got an opportunity to go “on the road” with a show in a group that provided the midways for the annual fairs in larger cities in Western Canada.
