Fans of French cuisine are in for a treat in November, as a five-star hotel hosts the Festival Gourmet de Au Pied de Cochon, named after the French restaurant of the same name in Mexico City.
A number of staff from said restaurant will be working in Guadalajara, producing dishes such as a roquefort, pear and lettuce salad; beef fillet with mushroom, potato, gravy and bone marrow; and a raspberry wafer dessert, all accompanied with fine French wines.
“The Mexican people have responded well to French food. They have displayed curiosity and an openness to try French cuisine,” said David Gambeau, the new head chef of Au Pied de Cochon, who will be on hand during the first week of the festival.
While Mexican food has yet to take off in France, Gambeau revealed at an advance tasting in Guadalajara last week that he has learned a lot about cooking with chili during his four months in Mexico.
The festival takes place from November 5 to 17, 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Frutas y Flores restaurant in the Presidente Intercontinental Hotel (Moctezuma 3515, on the corner with Avenida Lopez Mateos, across from Plaza del Sol).
