Many took to the streets in shock at the recent spate of violent events that have rocked the state.
“The truth is I have never been on a march like this. It is my first time” one participant admitted.
The marchers departed from the corner of Montevideo and Pablo Casals and in silence made the three-kilometer journey to the Glorieta Minerva, where they planted flowers and prayed.
The march was announced as a response to the disturbances of May 1, which led to the deaths of 16 people and saw 39 narco-blockades, a downed helicopter and the burning of 36 vehicles.
