Solution found for major metro-area bottleneck

Two semi-circular tunnels will be built to ease traffic flow at the congested LopezMateos/Perferico intersection.

One will make it easier for drivers coming into the city on Lopez Mateos to access the westbound lanes of the southern Periferico (toward Mariano Otero). The other tunnel will take traffic from the outbound lane of Lopez Mateos (from Las Fuentes) to the eastbound section of the beltway, toward the ITESO university.

The tunnels will reduce traffic congestion currently caused by drivers on Lopes Mateos who slow down circulation as they move across lanes to get to the Periferico exit.

The work could start as early as this month.  Only partial lane closures on both avenues are expected.
