Preliminary work will begin this month on the pedestrian walkway that will run along Avenida Alcalde from La Normal Glorieta to the Aranzazu and San Francisco churches.
The project will be undertaken in conjunction with the city center section of the third Tren Ligero line, currently under construction beneath Alcalde. The semi-pedestrianization of Alcalde – one of Guadalajara’s busiest thoroughfares – will cost around 500 million pesos, and involve the planting of 2,000 trees. The plan is to have only two lanes of traffic running along Alcalde, although this may require restrictions for certain vehicles.
