Lakeshore mayors look to create single metro area

The mayors of Chapala, Jocotepec, Tuxcueca and Tizapán el Alto are on a mission to formally link their respective municipalities in a single metropolitan zone.

The four incumbents appeared at the Jalisco state legislature Wednesday, January 27 to present their joint proposal to Augusto Valencia López, head of the congressional committee on metropolitan matters.   If approved by the committee, the Area Metropolitana de la Ribera de Chapala initiative will be put up for ratification by the full congressional body and validation on the federal level.

The designation would enable the local governments to tap into the resources of the federal Fondo Metropolitano in order to improve regional infrastructure, provide more efficient public services and carry out projects aimed at boosting economic and social development for the populace.
