Animal protection advocates are praising Chapala’s new government for ousting the outfit that has operated pony rides at the Malecón for many years.
The ponies endured long hours tied up to a mechanical carrousel and trotted around in circles when rented out for the entertainment of children brought to town by weekend tourists.
Anti-cruelty activists had called upon two previous administrations to ban the practice.
