Boxes containing 596,453 signatures voicing opposition to same-sex marriage have been delivered to federal deputies by representatives of the Frente Nacional por la Familia (FNF).
The “pro-family” group is vigorously hostile to President Enrique Peña Nieto’s initiative that he sent to Congress in May seeking to change the constitution and legalize marriage between persons of the same gender.
FNF representatives said the signatures support their own citizens’ bill presented to the Chamber of Deputies in September they say aims to “protect the institutions of marriage and the family.”
