Peso plummets to another all-time low

The peso fell to an historic low Wednesday, September 21, closing at 19.96 to the U.S. dollar. Mexico’s currency recovered slightly by Thursday to 19.70, although some banks and exchange houses were still trading above the 20-peso barrier.


President picks up statesmanship gong

Hugely unpopular at home, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto found some love north of the border this week as he received the Statesman of the Year award presented by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA), an organization that calls itself “the principal public forum in New York City for foreign policy addresses.”

Magna gasoline creeps up again
The price of Magna gasoline increased by two centavos to 13.98 pesos a liter September 1.  This means that the three percent maximum limit over a 12-month period that was imposed last year has now been reached and no more hikes should be expected in 2016. Premium gasoline stays the same, but diesel has risen by 47 centavos to 14.45 pesos a liter.
