Governor plays the victim, blames federation for most of Jalisco’s ills

Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro has fired a broadside at the federal government at a key moment in the election campaign, pointing a finger squarely at the Lopez Obrador administration as the major reason why this state is reeling under so many problems.

pg7Alfaro not only blames AMLO for the soaring levels of violent crime that scare so many citizens in Jalisco, but also says federal government inaction is largely responsible for this state’s current water shortage issues and the high incidence of forest fires.

Having come in for heavy criticism following the recent murder of three innocent siblings in Guadalajara by a drug cartel, Alfaro stressed that “Mexico’s laws make it perfectly clear that the federal government is responsible for fighting organized crime.” He compared how robberies have fallen under his watch, because “these are the crimes we are entrusted to pursue.”

The governor shrugged off suggestions that he is trying to deflect the criticism of his administration, and went further with his charges of neglect. “The responsibility for taking care of our forests also belongs to the federation and they have not said a single word,” he said in reference to the high number of forest fires that have ravaged the state during the current dry season.
