Fines for emissions test incompliance put on hold

Fines for motorists who fail to get emissions tests for their vehicles will not be enforced until July 2022, the state government has announced.

Mandatory emissions tests began August 2 for all private vehicles with Jalisco license plates ending in 7 that circulate on a regular basis in the Guadalajara metropolitan area.   In the revamped program, now known as Verificacion Responsable (Responsible Verification), tests are carried out at specially adapted, modern centers that are being installed in metropolitan Guadalajara and elsewhere in the state. Appointments for tests, which cost 500 pesos, must be made online.  The testing schedule, based on license plate terminations, runs until July.

State authorities said fines will kick in once the initial annual schedule is completed.
