Car owners race to book emissions tests

Jalisco’s vehicle verification program will require more inspection lines to meet the demand for tests shown in the first week of 2023.

pg7In the first five days of the year, more than 60,000 vehicle owners logged on to the website to schedule an appointment for a smog check.

As of March 1, traffic police will be able to issue fines for non compliance corresponding to the first group of private vehicles required to be tested for emissions in January and February. These are vehicles with Jalisco license plates ending in 1. (Foreign-plated cars do not need checks.) The two-month obligatory testing schedule continues with license plates terminating in 2 required to be taken for an inspection in either February or March, with fines kicking in April.   (Vehicles in the “intensive use” category require two inspections per year. Those with plates ending in 1 or 2 should be taken for testing in January or February, and those with 3 or 4 in March or April.)
