Jalisco ranch reveals crime cartel atrocities

The discovery of burned human remains and hundreds of discarded personal belongings at a ranch 40 miles west of Guadalajara—being referred to by some Mexican media outlets as an “extermination camp”—has renewed attention on Jalisco’s central role in Mexico’s cartel operations.

The gruesome find was made by the Guerreros Buscadores de Jalisco, a women-led civic collective dedicated to searching for missing persons. Members of the collective believe the ranch also served as a training camp for the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), where “forced recruits” were inducted into the criminal organization.

Some reports also suggest the camp may have been used by the cartel as a site for human experimentation and organ trafficking.

On March 5, after the discovery, the collective posted live video footage on social media showing charred and crushed bones, as well as around 200 pairs of shoes, clothing for both men and women, backpacks, wallets, IDs, bags, and suitcases.
