Mexico welcomes first Afghan refugees

With the traditional Mexican greeting, “Están en su casa” (This is your home), Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard Tuesday welcomed five members of a girls’ robotics team from Afghanistan, just days after they fled their Taliban-controlled country by way of Doha, Qatar.

Eateries to offer vaccine discounts

The Jalisco branch of the National Chamber of the Restaurant (Canirac) has launched a campaign to encourage its members to offer discounts and promotions to customers who present proof of Covid vaccination. 

Covid cases hit another record

On Wednesday, August 18, Mexico reported 28,953 Covid-19 cases, a record number in a single day, as the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic appeared to be showing no signs of abating.

Covid-19 fatalities rising

Just like many of their counterparts in the United States, Mexican officials at all levels of government are urging citizens to get vaccinated quickly, as Covid-19 cases and deaths rise, especially among a younger sector of the population.
