Homcide numbers spiked in 2016

Mexico registered 23,953 homicides for last year, the fourth highest number registered in the country’s history, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

The entire world seemed to be on the side of justice, compassion and tolerance in Mexico City during the Pride celebrations two weeks ago, inflicting, one fondly imagines, a rebuke to those who view the enjoyment of basic human rights to be a privilege only to be availed of by the slender pie wedge of humanity left after the rest has been carved away for the commission of a myriad of perceived moral trespasses.

Building costs go up

In the first five months of 2017, construction materials have risen by a yearly average of 15 percent, a hike not seen since 2008. Expect rents and housing prices to rise considerably this next year.
