Immigration chief favors do-it-yourself transactions

Officials at the Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM) are the authorized agents responsible for handling  the immigration matters of foreign citizens, says Ricardo Vera Lira, chief of the agency’s regional  headquarters in Guadalajara.  Stressing that personnel under his command are fully qualified to serve clients - without the intervention of independent intermediaries - he advises immigrants and foreign visitors to “do your own {trámites} (procedures) and deal directly with INM officials.”

Saturday, June 10, hundreds of couples of various ages (and in the case of one gay couple pair, sexual preference) gathered together in the Gimnasio 68, a large gymnasium in eastern Guadalajara, to be bound in eternal matrimony in a ceremony presided over by Guadalajara Mayor Enrique Alfaro.  

Trailer trucks clog city streets

A bill to keep trucks out of the metro Guadalajara area during daytime hours has been stalled in Congress since April 2016 because the Transportation Secretariat hasn’t conducted a study to determine the viability of the proposal.

Community, infrastructure projects de-prioritized to make room for new fountain in Zapopan

The Guadalajara Metro area can’t seem to get enough new bells and whisles for their downtown cores — where the governing class work and play.

The city of Zapopan — or more specifically, its main plaza — is on the verge of giving itself a cosmetic upgrade. The government is proposing to install a multi-colored, “interactive” fountain opposite the massive, colonnaded Basilica de Zapopan, the centerpiece of Plaza de las Americas.

First rainy season storm batters city

The first consequential storm of this year’s temporada de lluvias pummeled the Guadalajara metropolitan area Wednesday, provoking a slew of traffic issues, as well as scores of reports of fallen trees and electricity lines, and power outages. 

Pride parade expects 45,000 attendees

Saturday, June 10, hot on the heels of last weekend’s Marcha de Orgullo, comes the “rival” Guadalajara Pride 2017 

This year’s slogan is “United for Peace.” In line with the notion of unity, GDL Pride will join forces with Impulso Trans, an organization dedicated to equal rights for the transgender community.

The parade leaves the Minerva Glorieta at 2 p.m. and will end at Plaza Liberación in the city center, where a menagerie of artists (dancers, singers, musicians, etcetera) will perform throughout the afternoon.
